Vipers sealed a fifth league title on Friday evening with a resounding 3-0 victory over Express FC at the St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
Yunus Sentamu netted twice while Bright Anukani netted the other as the newly-crowned league champions wrapped up the title with four games to spare.
The Red Eagles started off the game the brightest and created a few chances to break the deadlock, but lacked that final touch to capitalise on those chances. Their major chance creator was Martin Kizza who caused alot of problems to the Vipers back line throughout the game.
But the Venoms netted from their first chance at goal – Yunus Sentamu running away from his defender, John Byamukama to tap in a well delivered Hillary Mukundane cross.
Sentamu got his second moments later, heading in from close range after a Mukundane header following Bright Anukani’s corner – a corner that resulted from an excellent Denis Otim save to deny Bobosi Byaruhanga ferocious hit from outside the box.
With the two Sentamu goals in the opening half, the game went into the break with the venoms in a commanding lead.
Vipers almost made it three before the hour mark, but SUPL top scorer Ceasar Manzoki headed agonizingly wide after an excellent Disan Galiwango cross.
But moments later, Vipers got their third through Bright Anukani, whose deflected effort beat Otim.
Express had a chance to pull a goal back after Livingstone Mulondo’s error, but Dennis Kiggundu did well to deny Eric Kambale.
The win against Express moves Vipers to 64 points on the league table with a 14-point margin over KCCA in second. Ura FC are in third place on 49 points.
The Venoms are also on course of their first double as they are in the last 4 of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.
