The Victoria Pearls are set to compete in the Capricorn Series that will bowl off today in Namibia at the newly renovated HPC Oval, with their first match at 3:00 PM East African Time.
Uganda emerged victorious in the tournament’s 2023 edition, defeating the hosts by just 4 runs.
However, they missed last year’s event.
This year, Cricket Namibia and the Capricorn Group have announced that the Capricorn Eagles, Namibia’s women’s national cricket team, will face Uganda in a series of six T20I matches, taking place from April 8th to April 17th, 2025, at the High-Performance Cricket Oval.
This tournament holds special significance, as it marks Uganda’s return to the series after their 2023 triumph.
The upcoming encounter is highly anticipated, particularly after Uganda’s recent win over Namibia in the 2025 Women’s Day Cup Final held on home soil.
This series offers both teams a valuable opportunity to enhance their international rankings, gain crucial competitive experience, and continue their journey toward global recognition in women’s cricket.
An exciting aspect of this year’s series is the inclusion of a 50-over match, which will allow both teams to showcase their tactical skills beyond the fast-paced nature of T20 cricket.
This longer format promises to be a thrilling and strategic contest, providing fans with an in-depth look at the growing strength of women’s cricket in Africa.
Uganda will be eager to extend their recent dominance over Namibia, having won their last four encounters.
These victories include a 4-wicket win in the 2023 T20 African Finals, an 8-wicket victory in the Women’s Day Cup Final, and two group stage wins, by 74 runs and one run, respectively, in dramatic double-header matches.
Uganda’s squad for the series has seen two changes since the Women’s Day Cup, with Shakira Saddick and Evelyn Anyipo replacing Alako Proscovia and Malemikia Patricia.
Victoria Pearls Squad: 1. Janet Mbabazi (C) 2. Consy Aweko, 3. Immaculate Nakisuyi, 4. Kevin Awino, 5. Rita Musamali, 6. Stephanie Nampiina, 7. Sarah Walaza, 8. Sarah Akiteng, 9. Phiona Kulume, 10. Shakira Saddick, 11. Malisa Ariokot, 12. Irene Mutoni, 13. Evelyn Anyipo, 14. Esther Iloku
