The Uganda Women’s National Cricket Team, the Victoria Pearls, was on Monday officially flagged off at the National Council of Sports (NCS) ahead of the Emerging Women’s Trophy 2025, scheduled for 18th November to 1st December in Thailand.
The inaugural tournament will bring together eight top emerging women’s cricket nations, including ODI-status sides Netherlands, PNG, Scotland, Thailand, and UAE, alongside Namibia, Uganda, and Tanzania from the top T20I rankings. Matches will be played at the Terdthai Cricket Ground and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Bangkok.
Uganda enters the competition in high spirits after sweeping the 2025 Victoria Series 5–0 against Canada in October. Teddy Oyella returns to the squad, replacing Phiona Kulume from the team that competed at the ICC Africa Qualifier in July.
The Victoria Pearls open their campaign on 20th November against Scotland at Terdthai Cricket Ground.
The top four teams from the tournament will qualify for a new global women’s event in 2027, part of the ICC’s plan to expand the Women’s T20 World Cup to 16 teams by 2030.
