Victoria Pearls won by 8 wickets

The Victoria Pearls of Uganda defeated Namibia by 8 wickets to win the Women’s Day T20 Cup at Entebbe Cricket Oval.

Uganda made one change to their lineup, replacing Alako Proscovia with Sarah Walaza.

This was not a like-for-like substitution, as Alako is a batter and Walaza is a bowler.

It seems the team opted to strengthen their bowling options for the final.

Namibia won the toss and chose to bat first.

However, their innings got off to a disastrous start, losing their first wicket in the opening over when captain Sune Wittmann was dismissed.

The pressure mounted quickly, and Namibia lost two more wickets soon after, leaving them struggling at 30/6 after 10 overs.

Despite a valiant effort from the Mwatiles, with Wilka contributing 22 runs and Mekelaye adding 23, Namibia could only manage 71/9 in their 20 overs.

Janet Mbabazi, Uganda’s captain, was the standout bowler, taking 4 wickets for just 19 runs in her 3 overs.

In reply, Uganda lost their captain, Janet Mbabazi, on the very first ball of their chase.

However, they recovered well, reaching 44/2 after the first 10 overs.

Iloku Esther played a crucial role, contributing 17 runs and leaving Uganda in a solid position.

Immaculate Nakisuyi also impressed with a composed 30* and took two brilliant catches in the field, earning her the Player of the Match award.

Her all-around performance helped guide Uganda to an 8-wicket victory and secured them the Women’s Day T20 Cup.

Throughout the tournament, Uganda showed their strength.

They started with a dominant 8-wicket win over Hong Kong China, lost to Nepal by one wicket, and then secured tight victories against Nepal by one run.

In the second round, Uganda triumphed over Hong Kong by 4 wickets and Nepal by 40 runs and crushed Namibia by 74 runs to seal their spot in the final.

An earlier match between Nepal and Hong Kong China, which was meant to determine placement, was abandoned due to rain, with no bowl-out taking place the following morning but Hong Kong China was the third placed team basing on the table.

The victory against Namibia meant that the only team Uganda had not lost to in the tournament was Namibia, cementing their status as champions of the Women’s Day T20 Cup.
