Match Summary – Game 2
Canada: 82/6 in 20 overs
Uganda: 83/6 in 19.5 overs
Result: Uganda won by 4 wickets
In a gripping final-over showdown at the Lugogo Cricket Oval, Uganda’s Victoria Pearls edged past a determined Canadian side by 4 wickets, going 2-0 up in the 2025 Victoria Series.
The game, soaked in tension and defined by resilience on both sides, highlighted the rising quality and competitive edge of women’s cricket in the associate nations.
Opting to bowl first on a wet outfield, Uganda struck early through Kevin Amuge, who repeated her Day 1 magic with a wicket in her second over.
Canada, however, showed their intent to bounce back — captain Amarpal Kaur led from the front with a measured 30 off 37, anchoring a cautious but steady effort.
With support from Terisha Lavia and Achini Perera, the visitors posted 82/6, a notable improvement from their opening game struggles.
Uganda’s reply was far from smooth.
The usually reliable top order crumbled under pressure — Janet Mbabazi, Esther Iloku, and Kevin Awino who was promoted up the order all fell cheaply
With composure well beyond the moment, Immaculate Nakisuuyi crafted a crucial 37 off 57 deliveries, anchoring a nervy innings with patience and poise.
She found a steady partner in Stephanie Nampiina, and together, they stitched a 32-run stand that kept Uganda’s hopes afloat.
Even as wickets tumbled around her, Nakisuuyi remained unshaken.
A late surge by Proscovia Alako brought the target within reach, and it was a wide from Kaur in the final over that sealed a heart-stopping win for Uganda.
“This was a test of temperament,” said Nakisuuyi, named Player of the Match.
“We’ve been working on finishing under pressure, and today, it paid off.”
The series now takes a break for Women’s Cricket Week festivities at Gayaza before resuming Thursday, where Canada will look to keep the series alive.
