Nepal 51 all out in 17.1 overs

The Victoria Pearls won by 40 runs

The Victoria Pearls dominated Nepal with a 40-run victory, keeping their hopes of qualifying for the finals alive.

Uganda won the toss and chose to bat first, making a change in their lineup.

Kevin Awino replaced Kulume Phiona, who had not been used in yesterday’s match, neither with the ball nor the bat.

The change wasn’t a direct swap, as Phiona is an all-rounder while Awino is a wicketkeeper-batter.

This adjustment might have been made to reduce extras from the wicketkeeper position and add depth to the batting lineup.

Uganda also made a change at the top of the order, with Janet Mbabazi opening alongside Proscovia Alako instead of Immaculate Nakisuyi.

However, for the second time in the tournament, Puja Mahato trapped Janet Mbabazi LBW in the first over.

Both openers were dismissed for zero, with Alako caught off the very first ball of the second over.

Despite the early setbacks, Esther Iloku and Rita Musamali rebuilt the innings with a solid 50-run partnership.

Uganda was 53/3 after 10 overs, with Iloku scoring 22 and Musamali contributing 38.

Uganda eventually set a target of 91/5 in 20 overs.

In the defense, Uganda made early breakthroughs.

Irene Mutoni struck in the first over, leaving Nepal at 6/1 after the opening over.

In the fifth over, Janet Mbabazi added two more wickets, keeping Nepal on the back foot and slowing their run rate.

Together with Mutoni, they dismantled Nepal’s batting lineup, bowling them out for just 51 runs in 17.1 overs.

Uganda secured a convincing 40-run victory.

In the morning, Namibia defeated Hong Kong China by 7 wickets.

The win keeps Uganda’s hopes alive for a spot in the finals, as they have a healthy net run rate of 0.5535.

All the top three teams are tied at 6 points, with Namibia leading the table, Uganda in second, and Hong Kong China in third. Nepal sits at the bottom with two points. All teams have played 5 matches so far.

The second round-robin matches will conclude tomorrow, with Uganda facing Namibia.

A win will help Uganda secure a spot in the finals, which will take place on Sunday between the top two teams.
