Namibia 83/8 in 20 overs beat Uganda 77/7 in 20 overs by 12 runs
Uganda fell 12 runs short against Namibia in a match they should have won with ease
Uganda’s Victoria Pearls came into Day Two with a sense of urgency.
After their narrow loss to Scotland, Namibia’s modest total of 83 should have been a simple chase—well within the comfort zone of a team long known for steady, composed run pursuits.
Instead, Uganda fell 12 runs short in a match that drifted away through hesitation, errors, and a batting display that never truly came alive.
Uganda started strongly after choosing to bowl, removing Sune Wittmann in the second ball and keeping Namibia to 2/1 after two overs.
Yasmeen Khan settled the innings with three boundaries.
Uganda continued to apply pressure through the middle overs, with wickets from Immaculate Nakisuuyi, Sarah Akiteng, and Malisa Ariokot reducing Namibia to 35/3 after 10 overs and later removing Kayleen Green for 21.
Despite regular breakthroughs, Namibia scraped their way to a modest 83 in 20 overs.
Uganda’s chase never gathered momentum.
They scored only 13 runs in the powerplay and lost Esther Iloku at 33/1 after 10 overs.
The turning point came in the 13th over, when Nakisuuyi and captain Janet Mbabazi fell in quick succession.
No Ugandan batter reached double figures beyond them, and despite needing just a run a ball late on, a flurry of wickets left 21 required from the final over and Uganda eventually failed to chase.
Debutant Leigh-Marie Visser was the star of the second innings, producing a stunning spell of 3 for 10 in four overs, earning Player of the Match in her very first game.

In the other matches, PNG defeated hosts Thailand by 8 runs, the Netherlands beat the UAE by 4 wickets, and Tanzania fell just 5 runs short against Scotland.
Tomorrow is a rest day in the tournament, and Uganda returns on Sunday to face PNG at the Terdthai Cricket ground.
The break comes at the right time.
Uganda must reflect on their fielding errors—three missed runouts, a missed stumping, and a costly overthrow—and address the slow, hesitant batting that continues to pile pressure on their lower order.
With tighter fielding and a proactive approach in the powerplay, matches like this one are well within reach.
