Joseph Zziwa scored the only goal of the game to earn Express FC bragging rights over rivals SC Villa at Nakivubo Stadium on Friday evening.
Zziwa’s goal came late in the game despite Villa being the dominant side in the Derby most especially in the opening half.
Above a quater a hour of the game just 23 minutes past, goalkeeper Norman Angufindru sustained an injury that couldn’t allow him continue and thus being replaced by Jeans Braddy Wokorach.
With Charles Lwanga having the best chance to put the Visitors in the lead lots of disappoint was sighted when he chose to go for personal glory rather than passing it to his teammates.
All this happened in a half where the hosts restricted Villa’s wings that consisted of Hakim Kiwanuka and Reagan Mpande from running down the Right and Left backs.
An action that Express FC interim coach Badru Kaddu Masa paid extreme attention to from start to finish.
In the second stanza, Express came back an improved side with more control on the game thanks to Saidi Kyeyune and Emmanuel Wasswa.
Not forgetting substitute Daniel Shabene whose energy boasted the Red Eagles midfield, in order to control Villa ‘s final third chance creation.
The goal came in the 79th minute with Zziwa finishing from close range after Ronald Ssekiganda failed to clear the ball away going on to lay it for the Center back turned to right back.
All this was started by Saidi Kyeyune’s short corner to John Asiimwe who returned the ball only for the former URA FC midfielder to cross with the outside of his right boot.
The win takes Express FC to fourth place on 12 points while SC Villa drop to 7th place on 11 points.
In their next games after the International Break will Express take a trip to Najjembe to face BUL on Saturday 23rd November after SC Villa host Wakiso Giants in Wankulukuku on the same day.
Before the derby Bright stars led by interim head coach Ian Mutenda managed to edge Kitara FC 1-0 by full time thanks to a Nelson Ssenkatuka first half strike in Kavumba.
This result meant Bright stars got their maiden win of the current season while Kitara FC and it’s new head-coach Wasswa Bbosa suffered his second consecutive loss of the campaign with Royals.
