Maroons Football Club secured a commanding 2-0 victory over Sports Club Villa on Sunday afternoon, dealing a blow to the Jogoos in their own backyard at the Muteesa II Wankulukuku Stadium.

Goals from Raymond Walugembe and former SC Villa midfielder Abel Eturude ensured the Prison Warders walked away with all three points on match day 19 of the 2024-2025 Uganda Premier League season.

SC Villa began the match with promise, as veteran winger Sula “Malouda” Matovu nearly gave them a dream start. His shot-cum-cross rattled the crossbar in the opening moments, signaling the hosts’ early intent.

However, Maroons quickly turned the tide. In the 10th minute, Baden Ogama delivered a precise ball to Raymond Walugembe, who latched onto it and calmly slotted past an advancing Meddie Kibirige to give the visitors the lead.

SC Villa pressed for an equalizer but struggled to break down Maroons’ disciplined defense. Their frustration deepened in the 78th minute when substitute Jackson Nunda played a well-weighted through ball to Abel Eturude. The former SC Villa player made no mistake, confidently doubling Maroons’ advantage and sealing the victory.

This vital win propels Maroons to 8th place with 27 points from 19 matches, while SC Villa slips to 9th, remaining on 24 points.

The defeat at home serves as a setback for the Jogoos, who will need to regroup quickly as they look to climb back up the league table in the coming fixtures.

Meanwhile, Maroons will relish their hard-fought victory, proving their resilience in the highly competitive league.
