Maroons FC and Bright Stars played out a 1-1 draw at the Luzira Prison Ground on Wednesday evening in the Uganda Premier League.

The match saw both teams share the spoils after an intense encounter that saw all the goals come in the second half.

The opening half was a tightly contested affair, with neither side able to break the deadlock.

However, the game sparked into life after the restart, as the hosts took the lead just ten minutes into the second period.

Fred Okot delivered a stunning free kick that left the Bright Stars’ goalkeeper helpless, sending the home fans into celebration.

Bright Stars, however, did not relent in their pursuit of an equalizer.

Their persistence paid off in the 78th minute when Paskali Oketcho’s well-delivered free kick turned off Maroons’ shot-stopper Simon Tamale and found the back of the net.

The unfortunate own goal ensured that Bright Stars salvaged a crucial point from the encounter.

The draw means Maroons FC remains in sixth place with 23 points, while Bright Stars continue to struggle near the relegation zone, staying in 15th place with 11 points.

Looking ahead, Maroons FC will visit URA FC at the Hamz Stadium on Saturday, while Bright Stars will also be on the road as they travel to Hoima to take on Kitara FC in their next fixture.

Elsewhere, in another Uganda Premier League fixture on Wednesday, Abdul Kalanzi’s penalty secured a 1-0 victory for Lugazi over Police FC at Najjembe.
