KCCA FC suffered a setback in their Uganda Premier League title chase after a 1-0 defeat to NEC FC at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
Enock Ssebagala’s early goal secured all three points for NEC, marking a league double over the Kasasiro Boys.
Ssebagala found the net in the ninth minute, expertly heading in a pinpoint cross from Geriga Atendele. KCCA goalkeeper Mutwalib Mugolofa got a hand on the ball but couldn’t prevent it from crossing the line.
Despite the early mistake, Mugolofa redeemed himself with a series of crucial saves, denying both Ssebagala and James Jarieko, and later stopping new NEC signing Ibrahim Kasinde.
KCCA struggled to create clear-cut chances, with Ashraf Mugume sending a free-kick over the bar and Derrick Nsibambi’s acrobatic effort saved.
January signing Umar Lutalo was introduced for his debut but failed to make an impact.
The defeat leaves KCCA on 24 points, 13 behind leaders Vipers SC, whom they face in a crucial match this Sunday.
Meanwhile, NEC moved to 36 points, just one behind Vipers, as they continue their pursuit of a maiden top-flight title under Hussein Mbalangu.
