Uganda Premier League
- UPDF 2-0 SC Villa
SC Villa’s disappointing 2-0 loss to UPDF FC in the Uganda Premier League continues their struggle with inconsistency, particularly in away matches.
The game, played at Bombo Barracks Military Grounds, saw the defending champions fail to secure their first away league win of the season.
UPDF’s victory also avenged a humiliating 5-0 defeat they suffered in the first round against the Jogoos.
The match began with a poignant moment of silence in honor of the late Abubaker Lawal, a talented forward from Vipers SC. However, the atmosphere quickly shifted as UPDF took control.
The game’s first goal came in the 13th minute, courtesy of Kitara Daniel, who scored with a well-executed header from a Tebandeke Christopher cross. This gave UPDF a deserved 1-0 lead.
In the second half, SC Villa pressed for an equalizer but found UPDF’s defense resolute. Villa’s attempts to break through were thwarted, and UPDF doubled their lead through substitute Brian Kalumba.
Kalumba capitalized on a defensive lapse, stole the ball, and coolly lobbed it over Villa’s goalkeeper, Norman Angufindru, to secure the 2-0 win.
Both teams now sit level on 24 points in the league standings, with SC Villa in 8th place, slightly ahead of UPDF, who are 10th.
This loss further emphasizes Villa’s ongoing away form issues, which continue to plague their season.
In their next games, UPDF will face URA at Nakivubo Stadium on Friday, March 7, while SC Villa will host Maroons FC the following day.
SC Villa will need to regroup quickly and find a solution to their inconsistency if they are to make a push for higher positions in the league.
