The Uganda Premier League (UPL) witnessed thrilling action over the weekend as SC Villa stunned Vipers SC, URA edged Mbale Heroes, and Mbarara City battled BUL to a draw.

SC Villa ended Vipers SC’s impressive run with a narrow 1-0 victory at Wankulukuku on Saturday. Charles Lwanga scored the only goal five minutes before halftime, finishing off a brilliant no-look pass from Patrick Jonah Kakande. The loss marked the end of Vipers’ remarkable streak of eight consecutive wins, all without conceding a goal.

Despite a strong start, Vipers struggled to break down Villa’s well-organized defense. Yunus Sentamu, Allan Okello, and substitute Isaac Ogwang all had chances but failed to find the net. Kakande was a standout performer, constantly troubling the Vipers’ defense. He was denied a penalty and later had a goal disallowed for offside after setting up Lwanga.

The defeat leaves Vipers two points behind league leaders NEC FC, while Villa moved up to 30 points, though still far from the title race.

URA secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Mbale Heroes under the floodlights at Nakivubo, thanks to a brace from Ivan Ahimbisibwe. The forward opened the scoring in the 25th minute, giving the Tax Collectors a halftime lead.

The second half began in explosive fashion, with Robert Eseru equalizing for Mbale Heroes in the 46th minute. However, URA responded immediately through Norman Namanya to restore their advantage. Ahimbisibwe then struck again around the hour mark, making it 3-1. Jesse Kajuba pulled one back for Mbale Heroes, but URA held on for their 10th win of the season.

The victory propelled URA to 33 points, moving them up to fifth place, overtaking SC Villa, Maroons, and Kitara. Meanwhile, Mbale Heroes remain deep in relegation trouble with just 10 points from 21 games.

Elsewhere, Mbarara City and BUL played out a hard-fought draw, with both sides failing to secure maximum points.
