Uganda Premier League
- NEC 2-0 Lugazi
NEC FC’s Gideon Odong and Emmanuel Ajo scored second half goals to secure a 2-0 win over Lugazi FC in the Startimes Uganda Premier League as the hosts returned to winning ways in their title chase.
NEC FC who suffered a Uganda Cup exit by Big league side Black’s Power needed a win to level points with leaders Vipers SC on 40points with just a separation of goal difference with the Kitende based side playing on Sunday evening.
Both teams lacked fluency and invention in the first half, with the game going into rest with a goalless score.
The hosts came back with more intensity after the interval and were rewarded when Gideon Odong headed in a well taken corner by Paul Mucureezi to put the hosts in the lead in the 60th minute.
Hussein Mbalangu’s team doubled their lead as on fire Mucureezi provided an assist to Emmanuel Ajo who slotted the ball in the back of the net by the 80th minute.
Lugazi FC found their best chance of a goal scoring opportunity fell to Freedom Mungudit as he fared with goalkeeper Benjamin Ochan in a 1v1 situation but the forward couldn’t find the back of the net in the 90th minute as his side lost by a 2-0 margin.
NEC FC have now won four from their last five league games in their pursuit of silverware but they will have to battle it out with favorites Vipers SC.
