Kitara FC bounced back to winning ways with a commanding 2-0 victory over Soltilo Bright Stars at the Royal Park, Butema. The victory not only boosted Kitara’s league position but also deepened Bright Stars’ struggles as they remain mired in the relegation zone.
Kitara Dominates at Home
The hosts started the match on the front foot, quickly asserting their attacking intent. Kitara’s first real chance came as early as the 3rd minute when Jude Ssemugabi tested Bright Stars’ goalkeeper Shamran Kamya with a powerful shot. Bright Stars responded in the 12th minute, but Nelson’s effort was well blocked by Kitara’s dependable shot-stopper, Chrispus Kusiima.
The breakthrough came in the 22nd minute when Living Kabon found himself in the right place to tap in a well-executed corner from Frank ‘Zaga’ Tumwesigye, giving Kitara a well-deserved lead. Just two minutes later, Kitara nearly doubled their advantage when George Ssenkaba’s header went agonizingly wide.
Bright Stars showed resilience in the second half, pressing forward in search of an equalizer. Noordin Bunjo came close in the 56th minute, but his effort was denied by Kitara’s disciplined backline. Another golden opportunity for Bright Stars came in the 65th minute when Kizanyiro’s header was kept out by Kitara’s resolute defense.
Kitara’s attacking threat remained constant, with substitute Marvin Nyanzi forcing a brilliant fingertip save from Kamya in the 75th minute. The game was put beyond doubt in the final minutes when experienced striker Patrick Kaddu sealed the victory with a stunning half-volley, assisted by youngster Byaruhanga John.
With this crucial win, Kitara FC moved up to 5th place on the Uganda Premier League table with 25 points, while Bright Stars remained in 15th place, deep in the relegation zone with just 11 points.

In another league fixture, UPDF FC secured a narrow but crucial 1-0 win over Mbarara City FC at Kakyeka Stadium. The victory came as a much-needed boost for the army side as they continue their battle for survival in the Uganda Premier League.
Mbarara City, playing at home, dominated possession for large spells of the game but struggled to break through UPDF’s well-organized defense. The game’s defining moment came midway through the second half when UPDF’s attack capitalized on a defensive lapse, slotting in the winning goal.
Despite Mbarara City’s late attempts to equalize, UPDF held on to claim maximum points, further tightening the competition in the league’s bottom half.
With the league table shaping up, Kitara will look to build on their momentum in their upcoming fixtures, while Bright Stars must find answers quickly to avoid sinking deeper into relegation trouble. Meanwhile, UPDF’s win gives them renewed hope, while Mbarara City will need to regroup as they look to bounce back in their next game.
