Uganda Premier League
- Lugazi 1-0 Wakiso Giants
- Police 1-1 NEC
- BUL 3-0 Mbale Heroes
Lugazi FC continued their strong start to the Uganda Premier League second round with a narrow 1-0 win over Wakiso Giants on Sunday.
Abdul Kalanzi’s 54th-minute penalty was the difference in a tightly contested match.
The decisive moment came after Wakiso Giants defender Shaibu Mtita fouled Freedom Mungudit inside the box, allowing Kalanzi to convert from the spot.
Earlier in the game, Kalanzi had a chance to open the scoring but was denied by Wakiso’s goalkeeper James Alitho.
Despite Wakiso’s efforts to respond, Lugazi’s shot-stopper Juma Mutebi made two crucial saves, first blocking Hudson Mbalire’s free-kick and later keeping out Blanchar Mutebi’s close-range attempt.
The defeat extends Wakiso Giants’ struggles, leaving them winless in 14 matches and stuck at 13 points, five away from safety.
Pressure continues to mount on coaches Steven Bengo and Tonny Mawejje as their side faces a relegation battle.
Meanwhile, Lugazi’s victory, following their 1-0 win over Police FC in their previous game, lifts them to 20 points, seven clear of the danger zone.
Elsewhere Police at home secured a late point through Emmanuel Mugume’s goal after Cromwell Rwothomio had put NEC infront.
For BUL, they thumped Mbale Heroes 3-0 with goals from Hilary Onek, Nicholas Mwere and Karim Ndugwa.
