  • Lugazi 1-0 Police
  • Maroons 1-1 Bright Stars

Abdul Kalanzi was the hero of the day as his second-half penalty secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory for Lugazi FC over Police FC at the Lugazi FC Stadium.

The crucial win earned Lugazi maximum points and brought them within touching distance of their opponents in the league standings.

The match began with both teams exhibiting solid defensive organization, resulting in a goalless first half.

Neither side managed to create clear-cut chances, as the game was largely contested in midfield with few attacking breakthroughs.

At the start of the second half, Lugazi FC’s head coach Steven Bogere made tactical changes, bringing on debutant Jumah Lutakome and Alvin Birungi in place of Sam Ssemugugu and Emmanuel Obua.

The changes injected fresh energy into the home side, increasing their attacking momentum.

The defining moment of the match arrived in the 70th minute when Gabriel Eragu brought down Freedom Munguti inside the penalty area, leaving the referee with no choice but to point to the spot.

Kalanzi stepped up and confidently converted the penalty, sending the home fans into jubilation.

The victory lifts Lugazi FC to 17 points, just one behind Police FC.

They are now level on points with UPDF FC, who face Kitara FC at the Bombo Military Barracks grounds in their next fixture.

Looking ahead, Lugazi FC will visit relegation-threatened Wakiso Giants on Sunday, February 16, at Kabaka Kyabaggu Grounds. Meanwhile, Police FC will seek redemption when they host NEC FC at Kavumba Recreation Grounds on the same day.

Elsewhere Maroons drew one-all with Bright Stars at the Luzira Prison Grounds. Fred Okot scored the hosts goal while goal keeper Simon Tamale turned in Paskali Oketcho’s free kick to level matters for the visitors.
