Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Football Club returned to winning ways with a narrow 1-0 victory over Maroons FC at Hamz Stadium in the Uganda Premier League.

The decisive moment came through Moses Aliro’s brilliant first-half diving header, securing a much-needed win for the tax collectors.

After suffering a 2-0 defeat to Vipers at St Mary’s Stadium, URA started the game with intent.

Defender Joseph Bright Vuni came close within two minutes, narrowly missing the target with a volley.

Another defender, Faizo Matovu, also sent a header off target following an inviting corner from Okabo in the 15th minute.

URA’s offensive efforts continued when Ivan Ahimbisibwe squandered a golden opportunity in the 23rd minute, shooting straight at Maroons goalkeeper Simon Tamale.

However, Aliro finally broke the deadlock in the 30th minute, executing a perfect diving header from Nyarwa Bitanywaine Olimi’s pinpoint cross from the left flank.

Maroons’ main threat, Ivan Asaba, constantly troubled URA’s defense with his dribbling and pace.

A free-kick from Felix Okot hit URA captain Enock Walusimbi, temporarily halting the game as he received medical attention.

In the second half, both sides made key substitutions. URA introduced Bruno Junior Bunyaga, while Maroons brought on Jackkson Nunda and later Raymond Walugembe in a bid to find an equalizer.

Despite Maroons’ late push, URA goalkeeper Rogers Omedwa produced a crucial fingertip save to deny substitute Ivan Mayanja in the dying moments.

The victory lifts URA to fourth place on the 16-team log with 27 points from 17 matches. Maroons, suffering their sixth defeat of the season, remain eighth with 23 points.

Elsewhere, SC Villa edged Express 1-0 in the Kampala Derby, courtesy of a Patrick Jonah Kakande strike.

The Uganda Premier League action continues on February 16, 2025, with Vipers visiting KCCA at MTN Omondi Stadium, while NEC faces Police at Kavumba Recreational Stadium.
