Bombo based StarTimes UPL club UPDF FC has forced coach Kefa Kisala out of the club after just one season, leaving with a year left on his contract. They say the two parties reached an agreement to part ways by mutual consent.

Kisala joined UPDF FC at the start of the 2020/21 season replacing embattled Steven Bogere (who promoted the club back to top-flight) along with his backroom staff Ssaka Mpiima and Pius Ngabo (who joined from Police FC).

The management of the club has agreed to compensate their now former coach for the time left on his contract by the time of this decision to cut it short.

But just before his departure, the former Wakiso Giants coach was suspended for two games by the club management for what they termed as ‘very poor’ performance after the Army side lost 5-1 at the home of Wakiso Giants in Wakiso.

Kisala intimated to Swift Sports that at that moment, he was asked to write an apology for the bad results and as the club hierarchy for forgiveness.

“I was asked to write a written apology over things I weren’t aware of. Every team in a season undergoes a bad patch but we were working on moving out of it. We started very well in the season but injuries to key players gave us a setback. There is no way a professional coach can write an apology over a string of bad results.”

The club [UPDF] had a superb start to the 2020/21 StarTimes Uganda Premier League season, and led the standings for at least a few days before succumbing to the pressure that left them in 8th position with 37 points in the 27 matches they had played.

While at UPDF FC, Kisala was voted as the best coach for the month of December after guding the club to top spot with four wins in a possible five.

As the culture of Uganda football is, we are expecting another player exodus at the club with players including; Jesse Kajuba, Ronnie Kisekka, Ibrahim Wammanah, James Begisa, Gadafi Gadihno, Simon Mbaziira, Tonny Kyamera, Brian Kayanja among others, who Kisala brought in.

This website has learnt that UPDF has made contact with former Vipers SC manager, Fred Kajoba, former Maroons FC coach, Charles Ayiekoh and former Mbarara City coach Brian Senyondo. Peter Onen formerly at BUL FC is the other coach they are believed to have started pursing to replace Kisala.

The former Uganda Cranes international and Express FC midfielder has also previously managed Bul Bidco FC, URA SC, Express football club and Wakiso Giants.
