Uganda’s ISF Gymnasiade U15 Games Team Officially Flagged Off to Serbia

A wave of excitement and national pride swept through Cooper Chimney Lugogo on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, as Uganda officially flagged off its contingent for the International Schools Sports Federation (ISF) Gymnasiade U15 Games. 

The team, consisting of 47 young athletes, will represent the country in Zlatibor, Serbia, from April 4 to April 14, 2025.

This delegation is composed of student-athletes from two distinguished schools Kibuli Secondary School and Seroma Christian High School who have earned the honor of showcasing their talent on an international stage.

Out of the 47 athletes, 34 will compete in badminton, table tennis, swimming, and athletics, disciplines where Uganda has historically demonstrated strength and promise.

The flag-off ceremony was attended by key figures in Uganda’s sports and education sector. Among the distinguished guests was Cleophas Mugenyi, Acting Director of Basic Education at the Ministry of Education and Sports who served as the chief guest.

He was joined by Sammy Odong, Assistant Commissioner for Physical Education**, and Patrick Okanya, the team leader and USSSA President Emeritus.

Justus Mugisha, the President of the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA), was also present to offer his encouragement and support.

In his address to the media, Justus Mugisha praised the dedication and hard work of the selected athletes.

“I congratulate the schools; Kibuli S.S and Seroma Christian High School and the athletics team who have been chosen to represent Uganda.

Uganda is one of the top countries in Africa in sports,” he remarked, expressing confidence in the team’s ability to shine on the international stage.

The ISF Gymnasiade U15 Games is a prestigious competition that brings together young athletes from across the world, providing a platform to nurture future sports stars.

For Uganda, this is not just an opportunity to compete but also a chance to strengthen its reputation as a rising force in school sports on the global stage.
