Teams from across Uganda have gathered for the 3rd edition of the CFK beginning-of-year badminton tournament, which is currently taking place at the CFK Badminton Academy.

Representing the nation are schools like St. Henry’s College Kitovu, Aga Khan High School, Trinity Primary School, Nabisunsa Girls’ School, Lohana Academy, Kibuli SS, and City Junior School, among others.

These teams have joined CFK Badminton Academy in what has become a significant event on the local badminton calendar.

This year’s tournament, which features over 150 participants, marks the highest turnout since its inception in 2021, when only 110 players registered.

The event runs across three categories—junior, senior, and corporate and will culminate on January 19.

Among the young stars is Devine Mwesigwa Kirabo, a CFK Academy player competing in the girls’ under-13, girls’ under-15, and women’s doubles categories.

Mwesigwa emphasized the importance of using the competition not just to win medals but to share and teach badminton skills with others.

Fred Kirabo, CEO of CFK Badminton Academy, underscored the tournament’s role in preparing players for the year’s packed badminton schedule.

“In February, we will have the Uganda International and other events organized by the Uganda Badminton Association. This tournament allows us to assess our players’ progress at the club level,” he said.

Since its last edition in 2023, the tournament has gained momentum as a vital preparation tool for the CFK Academy, complementing the holiday camps many clubs use to sharpen their players’ skills.

With such initiatives, Uganda’s badminton future looks promising as young talent continues to rise and thrive.
