Ugandan forwards Denis Omedi and Hakim Kiwanuka played pivotal roles in guiding APR FC to victory in the 2025 Heroes Cup, securing their first silverware with the Rwandan giants.

The final, held at Kigali Pele Stadium on Saturday, ended in a tense goalless draw after both normal and extra time, forcing the match into a dramatic penalty shootout. APR FC held their nerve, converting four of their spot kicks to defeat Police FC 4-2 and claim the prestigious title.

Omedi and Kiwanuka Shine in APR’s Journey to Glory

Both Omedi and Kiwanuka were named in the starting lineup, making significant contributions before being substituted late in the second half. Their performances built on an impressive semi-final display earlier in the week, where APR FC secured a commanding 2-0 victory over AS Kigali to book their place in the final.

The triumph marks a promising start for the Ugandan duo, who are quickly making their presence felt at APR FC in the early stages of the season.

Uganda Cranes midfielder Taddeo Lwanga was named on the bench but remained an unused substitute in the final. Meanwhile, Police FC featured two other Ugandan stars—Allan Kateregga and Ashraf Mandela, both of whom played the full 120 minutes but were unable to help their side overcome APR’s resilience. Left-back Eric Ssenjobe was not included in the matchday squad.

Building Momentum for the Season

With the Heroes Cup title now secured, Omedi and Kiwanuka will be aiming to carry this winning momentum into APR FC’s league campaign. The duo’s growing confidence and impact could prove vital as the Rwandan champions continue their quest for further success this season.
