Uganda came out on top of the inaugural Africa AirBadminton championship that was played in Mauritius.
Uganda managed to win all their Four ties despite learning the game format weeks to the tournament.
The tournament shuttled off on Thursday 14th November (Day 1) where we saw Uganda stage a strong performance, winning 60-8 over Comoros in their historic first tournament experience.
Muzafaru Lubega going onto share his thoughts on Uganda’s game against Comoros stating;
“This is our first-ever participation in an Airbadminton competition, so we will do our best to win a medal for our country.”

The following Day at Mont Choisy Beach in Mauritius, Uganda pulled off a thrilling victory over the host country in a hard-fought match that left fans in awe with 60-57 edgy win.
Notably both teams came into the game fully prepared, making it a challenging encounter that showcased high-level skill and resilience on both sides.
After the game Uganda Captain Augustus Owinyi shared his excitement with a deep breath and happy face;
“I am extremely happy to have won this tough tie against Mauritius” he stated on the day
Adding that “We all know that Mauritius is a very difficult team, and we are glad to have won a point for Team Uganda.”
“Now, we have to remain focused and prepare ourselves well for the upcoming matches and also the individual events.” He concluded
The team wrapped it up with wins against South Africa 60-58 and Tunisia 60-47 respectively on Day 3 which saw games climax on Thursday 14th November .
Uganda’s team competed with six players and one coach: Augustus Owinyi, Muzafaru Lubega, Olivia Nakajja, Malha Musa, Sharifah Mbabazi, Fred Kadoli and was Coached by William Kabindi.

Africa AirBadminton Championships 2024 was more than just competition. It was a celebration of badminton’s growth and inclusivity across Africa.
