  • Tanzania won by 3 wickets

Tanzania U-19 edged past Uganda U-19 with a 3-wicket win in the opening match of the 2025 Easter Youth 50-Overs Series at Lugogo Cricket Oval. The game was closely contested, but Uganda’s struggles with the bat and missed chances in the field made the difference on the day.

Uganda’s Struggles with the Bat

After winning the toss, Tanzania chose to bowl first, and their bowlers put Uganda under early pressure.

Khalidy Amiri Juma dismissed Gerald Olipa for a duck in the first over, giving Tanzania a strong start.

Despite a quick 32 off 21 balls from Christopher Kidega, who built a 40-run partnership with Conrad Lubwama, Uganda kept losing wickets regularly.

With some tight bowling and two run-outs, Uganda found it difficult to build momentum.

Ochen Peter played a steady knock of 47 off 50 balls*, supported by Musa Majid (23), helping Uganda post a total of 160 all out in 34.2 overs.

Tanzania’s Best Bowlers

  • Augustine Meya Mwamele: 2/23
  • Mohamed Simba Mbaki: 2/42
Tanzania’s Chase and Uganda’s Missed Chances

Uganda’s Balidawa Ali gave the hosts hope with a three-wicket haul, reducing Tanzania to 47/3 in 10 overs.

However, Mohamed Simba Mbaki (41 off 40 balls) played a key role in Tanzania’s recovery.

Dylan Manish Thakrar (30 off 23 balls) and Augustine Meya Mwamele (26 off 53 balls) ensured Tanzania reached 161/7 in 39.1 overs, securing the win.

For his batting and bowling contributions, Mbaki was named Player of the Match.

Reactions from Uganda’s Camp

Uganda’s captain, Gerald Olipa, and assistant coach, Robinson Turinawe, admitted that dropped catches and fielding errors cost the team the match.

Despite the disappointment, Uganda remains hopeful of making a strong comeback in the next game.

Tanzania will now focus on maintaining their winning form when they face Uganda again at Lugogo Cricket Oval.
