Uganda 151/8 in 20 overs

Rwanda 65/10 in 17 overs

Uganda won by 86 runs

Uganda secured a commanding 86-run win over Rwanda in their second meeting at the ongoing ILT20 Continental Cup in Kigali.

The victory was marked by a strategic rotation in Uganda’s lineup, introducing Simon Ssesazi, Juma Miyaji, and Joseph Buguma while resting Shrideep Mangela, Cosmas Kyewuta, and veteran Frank Nsubuga.

Rwanda won the toss and chose to bowl, but Uganda capitalized on the opportunity to bat first.

For the first time in the tournament, Uganda completed the powerplay without losing a wicket, reaching 36/0 after six overs.

Despite a slight slowdown in the middle overs, they managed to post a competitive 151/8 on a bowling-friendly wicket.

Riazat Ali Shah the captain for Uganda led the charge with 44 runs, supported by Obuya Robinson (34 off 32) and Simon Ssesazi (19).

Rwanda’s Ignance Ntirenganya was the standout bowler, claiming 3 wickets, while Eric Kubwimana and Martin Akayezu chipped in with 2 wickets each.

Notably, the game was played on a fresh wicket, unlike the one used in the previous matchdays.

The sunny conditions also provided a stark contrast to earlier overcast games.

Uganda’s defense began innovatively, with Alpesh Ramjan opening the bowling as a spinner, a first in this tournament.

Ramjan’s economical spell of 2/12 in four overs set the tone for a dominant bowling display.

Rwanda’s chase got off to a rocky start, with captain Didier Ndikubwimana dismissed for just 4 runs by Dinesh Nakrani.

Opener Oscar Manishimwe provided brief resistance, scoring 30 off 33 balls, but the rest of the batting lineup faltered.

Henry Ssenyodo led Uganda’s bowling effort with 3 wickets, while Alpesh Ramjan and Juma Miyaji took 2 wickets each.

Dinesh Nakrani and Joseph Baguma claimed a wicket apiece, as Rwanda were bundled out for a mere 65 runs in 17 overs.

With this emphatic win, Uganda moves forward with confidence and will face Nigeria in their next match tomorrow morning
