Uganda won by 5 wickets (DLS method)

Uganda showcased resilience and determination as they staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Nigeria by five wickets via the DLS method in the ILT20 Continental Cup.

The victory not only underscored Uganda’s dominance but also solidified their status as the tournament’s only unbeaten side.

After Nigeria won the toss and opted to bat, they began confidently but were soon tested by Uganda’s disciplined bowling attack.

Uganda made one change, bringing in Pascal Murungi for Juma Miyagi.

Cosmas Kyewuta and veteran Frank Nsubuga opened the bowling.

Despite early chances, including a dropped catch and a missed direct hit, Nigeria remained steady, reaching 32 without loss after the powerplay and posting 133/9 at the end of their 20 overs.

The highlight of Uganda’s bowling performance was Alpesh Ramjani’s sensational spell, taking 5 for 17.

He was ably supported by Kyewuta, who chipped in with two crucial wickets.

Their efforts kept Nigeria from building significant partnerships.

A brief drizzle accompanied by lightning delayed the second innings, resulting in a revised target of 83 runs in 11 overs for Uganda.

The chase began positively, with Uganda at 8 without loss after the first over.

However, the top order faltered, with only Raghav Dawani reaching double figures among the first four batters.

Cosmas Kyewuta turned the game on its head with an explosive 24* off just 10 balls.

Coming in at number seven, the bowler-turned-savior anchored Uganda’s chase and sealed the victory with timely boundaries.

His heroics earned him the Player of the Match award.

Reflecting on the win, Riazat Ali Sha expressed concern over the inconsistency in the top order, noting that only Robinson Obuya has delivered consistently.

However, he remained optimistic that the batters would step up in Uganda’s next game against hosts Rwanda.

Rwanda, who lost to Uganda in their earlier encounter, are riding high after a dominant 10-wicket win over Botswana earlier in the day, chasing down 137 runs.

With momentum on their side, they will look to challenge Uganda’s unbeaten run in what promises to be an exciting showdown
