The Parliament of the Republic of Uganda has confirmed that the country is set and ready to welcome the continent as it gears up to host the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN). This assurance was given by Minister of State for Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang, in an official statement to Parliament on July 30th.

Hon. Ogwang confirmed that all preparations are in place for Uganda to co-host the tournament under the East African PAMOJA Bid, alongside Kenya and Tanzania.

Mandela National Stadium in Namboole has passed CAF inspection and is ready to host 12 matches, including nine group games, a quarterfinal, a semifinal, and the third-place playoff,” he said while addressing Parliament on July 30.

Uganda will host Group C, which includes Algeria, Guinea, Niger, and South Africa. All matches will take place at the newly renovated Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, now looking modern and match-fit with at least 38,000-seat capacity.

Hon. Ogwang explained that CAF has inspected and cleared both the main and training venues. Besides Namboole, the teams will train at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru, Kyambogo University Grounds, Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, and Kampala International School Uganda (KISU).

All the pitches now have proper dressing rooms, floodlights, and irrigation systems to meet international standards.

Uganda has already recruited and trained over 500 young volunteers to help with areas like ticketing, media, hospitality, security, and logistics.

President Yoweri Museveni also offered up to 90 VIP vehicles from the state protocol fleet to support transport for CAF officials, guests, and visiting teams.

CAF has officially started online ticket sales across the three host nations. You can now buy tickets for matches in Uganda using MTN, Airtel, or Visa.

Prices are pocket-friendly:

  • UGX 10,000 – Ordinary ticket

  • UGX 30,000 – Silver ticket

  • UGX 50,000 – Premium ticket

The minister assured Parliament that safety and health services are in place. Uganda has planned for 25 ambulances and 2 air rescue helicopters. Emergencies will be handled at fully equipped hospitals in Mulago, Entebbe, and Mulago Women’s Hospital, where 280 medical workers are ready for action.

CAF has also trained Uganda’s joint security forces to ensure safety at all venues.

Uganda has already received its first guest team. Niger arrived on July 29 and is in camp preparing for their Group C matches. The Uganda Cranes are also in residential training and will be hoping to make the country proud.

This CHAN tournament is not just about football—it’s a test run for AFCON 2027, which we will also host. Uganda is ready. We ask for your support,” Hon. Ogwang told Parliament.

With less than a week to go before the tournament kicks off on 2nd August 2025, this is proof that Uganda is ready to host the tournament (CHAN 2024).
