Uganda, Egypt Crowned Champions at 2025 Homeless World Cup in Oslo, Infantino calls for unity

Africa made history at the 2025 Homeless World Cup as Uganda and Egypt were crowned champions in the women’s and men’s categories, marking the first time both nations lifted the coveted titles in the same edition of the tournament.

The championship, held in Oslo, Norway, was broadcast globally on FIFA+ and Eurovision Sport, showcasing the inspiring power of football in transforming lives.

Uganda Stuns Mexico to Clinch Maiden Women’s Title

Uganda, represented by Youth Sport Uganda, delivered a stunning 6-0 victory over nine-time champions Mexico in the women’s final.

Star striker Stella Namisango netted five goals, while Eva Nagayi added the sixth in a rain-soaked match. Goalkeeper Sharifa Kitali produced a heroic performance, pulling off countless saves, including a crucial penalty stop.

With this victory, Uganda became only the third nation to win the women’s title since Chile in 2014 and the first African team to triumph since Kenya in 2011.

The historic achievement was further recognized with Uganda receiving the award for Best New Women’s Team.

Egypt Edge Portugal in Thrilling Men’s Final

In the men’s final, Egypt edged Portugal 3-2 to secure their first Homeless World Cup title. Captain Mostafa “Sheka” Ismael scored twice, with Taher Ayman Abdelaal adding the decisive goal. Portugal’s Miguel Ângelo Pinto Pereira also bagged a brace, but Egypt held firm to seal the win.

Egypt’s goalkeeper Mohamed Hussein Badawy was named Best Men’s Goalkeeper for his outstanding performances throughout the tournament.

The week-long football carnival brought together 500 players from across the globe, celebrating resilience and inclusion beyond the sport itself.

“This is a historic moment, not just for Uganda,Egypt but for Africa and the Homeless World Cup,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who congratulated the team.

“Uganda’s victory shows how football can inspire hope, change perceptions, and bring people together.”

Since its inception in 2003, the Homeless World Cup has positively impacted over 1.2 million lives by using football as a platform for social change. The 2026 edition will be hosted by Mexico, promising another chapter of inspiration and hope.
