Nigeria 128/7 in 20 overs

Uganda won by 23 runs

In a thrilling showdown, Uganda triumphed over Nigeria by 23 runs to secure their place in the ILT20 Continental Cup Finals.

Nigeria won the toss and elected to bowl, making an impressive start in the powerplay.

Uganda’s batting faltered early, losing two key wickets in the fifth over, including Riazat Ali Shah for a duck.

By the end of the sixth over, Uganda was reeling at 29/3, with Isaac Danalad delivering a maiden over.

At the halfway mark, Uganda found themselves under pressure at 52/4 after 10 overs.

However, a late surge from Dinesh Nakaran (32), Fred Achelam (28), and Cosmas Kyewuta (16 off 10) helped Uganda post a respectable 151/8 in their 20 overs.

Nigeria began their chase confidently, reaching 13/1 in the first over.

Despite strong contributions from Isaac Okpe (41) and Salau Selim (36), they fell short, managing only 128/7 in their 20 overs.

Cosmas Kyewuta was the standout performer for Uganda, claiming 4 wickets and earning the Player of the Match award for his all-round performance.

Coming into this game after a rest day, Nigeria had suffered a loss to Rwanda and failed to bounce back with a win.

Meanwhile, Uganda’s victory cements their spot in Saturday’s finals, with their opponent yet to be determined.

Botswana, Nigeria, and Rwanda each have a chance to qualify for the final if they win their remaining games.

Interestingly, each team in the tournament faces the others three times in a round-robin format.

Even if Uganda loses to both Rwanda and Botswana in their remaining matches, they are guaranteed a place in the final as no other team can surpass their current points tally.

Uganda’s campaign has been defined by remarkable consistency, positioning them as a strong contender for the title.

With the final looming as an exciting showdown, they first turn their attention to tomorrow morning’s clash against Rwanda.

The team will then conclude their round-robin stage with a match against Botswana on Friday, setting the stage for a thrilling finish
