Uganda Cubs came from a goal down to win Tanzania in the U17 AFCON 2024 Regional qualifiers with a 2-1 win in the final played today at the Hamz stadium in Nakivubo.

Abel Josiah Samson opened the score for Tanzania only 11 minutes into the game.

Uganda got its equalizer through Arafat Nkoola and tournament top scorer James Bogere came through with the winner in the 88th minute his 7th goal in the Championship.

It was all celebrations for the local fans after the final whistle.

“I am happy that the players continued to fight even after conceding a goal and win the match,” said a happy Ugandan coach Ssenyondo after the match.

However only the finalists will represent CECAFA in next year’s U17 AFCON in Ivory Coast which will also act as the U17 World Cup qualifier.

The two had met at the group stages, drawing a 1-1 opener, Uganda made it to the semifinals after defeating Kenya in their last group game and cleared defending champions Somalia at the semifinals.

In an earlier play-off match Somali beat South Sudan 4-2 in penalty shootouts after the match had ended 2-2.
