The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has released the provisional squad for the Uganda Cranes ahead of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The announcement was made by the technical duo of Fred Muhumuza and Morley Byekwaso, who will oversee the team’s preparations for the regional tournament, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
In accordance with CHAN regulations, the selected players are exclusively drawn from clubs within the domestic league system.
The 41-man provisional squad is largely composed of Uganda Premier League (UPL) stars, with the exception of forward James Bogere from regional side Masaka Sunshine FC, a rare inclusion from outside the top tier.
Preparations for CHAN 2024 begin in earnest on Monday, 23rd June 2025, with non-residential training sessions scheduled to commence at 9 AM at the Prisons Ground in Luzira.
The initial phase of training will serve as a critical opportunity for the technical team to assess form, fitness, and tactical suitability ahead of the final squad selection.
The provisional squad reflects a thoughtful blend of experienced campaigners and promising young talent.
Vipers SC and KCCA FC dominate the list, reflecting their strong performances in domestic competitions.
Notable names such as Milton Karisa, Yunus Sentamu, and Allan Okello bring international exposure, while emerging stars like Shafik Nana Kwikiriza and Reagan Mpande add youthful dynamis
