Uganda A won by 7 wickets.

Uganda A started their campaign on a high note, securing a commanding 7-wicket victory over Rwanda XI in their opening match of the RCA Emerging Invitational Tournament.

The win was a testament to strategic decision-making, disciplined bowling, and a composed batting display.

After winning the toss, Uganda A captain Roger Mukasa opted to bowl first, leveraging a slow, wet outfield and a freshly prepared wicket due to Rwanda’s rainy season.

This tactical decision paid off as Rwanda XI found it challenging to build momentum in the early overs.

However, middle-order batter Ochide Tuyisenge provided a crucial rescue act, smashing a quickfire 68 off 54 balls, propelling Rwanda XI to a respectable 122/7 in 20 overs.

Uganda A’s bowlers were clinical, with Ivan Baidu leading the charge. Baidu, who was later named Player of the Match, returned impressive figures of 3/22 in his 4 overs.

He was well-supported by Jonathan Ssebanja, who picked up 2 wickets, and Siraje Nsubuga, who chipped in with one. Their collective effort ensured Rwanda XI couldn’t fully capitalize on Tuyisenge’s innings.

In the chase, Uganda A approached the target cautiously, adapting to the tricky conditions.

Despite the early loss of Simon Ssesazi, captain Roger Mukasa anchored the innings with a solid 46 before being run out, just shy of a deserved half-century.

Contributions from Ronald Lutaaya (31) and Pascal Murungi (26) ensured Uganda A crossed the finish line with ease, sealing victory in the 19th over.

During the afternoon match Zimbabwe Emerging defeated Rwanda A by 35 runs, setting up a thrilling showdown for tomorrow’s fixtures.

The two unbeaten sides, Uganda A and Zimbabwe Emerging, are set to clash in a highly anticipated morning fixture, while the Rwandan outfits, Rwanda XI and Rwanda A, will battle for redemption in the afternoon.

Uganda A’s performance in the opener highlights their intent and preparation, with a balanced mix of bowling precision and batting depth.

As the tournament progresses, the clash with Zimbabwe Emerging promises to test their mettle further.
