UFL: YMCA start their campaign against returning Makerere University

YMCA Comprehensive Institute will kick-off their Pepsi University Football League campaign against a just returning Makerere University at the Makerere University main ground on Tuesday.

Both sides are grouped in group D alongside St. Lawrence University and MUST.

It has been four years since Makerere University last featured in the University Football league after they were banned due to hooliganism of their fans in 2018 so there is excitement among the Makerere hopefuls ahead of their return to action.

“We are excited to be back after a long time. The players and fans have been missing the action and excitement of the University Football League and we believe that this time around we are here to stay. The players and fans are excited to be back in the league,” Makerere University sports tutor Peninnah Kabenge said.

Ahead of the game, William Kasozi, who is Makerere head coach says his team is in good shape to win their first game in four years.

We have prepared very well because the boys have waited for all the years we have spent without being in the league,” Kasozi said before adding;

“We have got enough time to train and I think all the boys are ready ans we are ready to compete in this league and we are ready,” Kasozi added.

On the other side, YMCA Assistant coach Innocent Kiwanuka has also expressed readiness ahead of the encounter.

“I don’t have a lot to say about tomorrow ‘s game, all I can say we are ready. Makerere get ready for us we are coming to compete.”

The other group D game between St. Lawrence and MUST will be played on Friday evening.

St. Lawrence lost the 2019 championship to Uganda Christian University ( UCU) after their 2-1 loss at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
