UFL: Munir bags a brace as MUBS edge Bishop Stuart in a penalty affair

Munir Saidi bagged a first half penalty brace as Makerere University of Business Studies (MUBS) defeated Bishop Stuart University 2-1 in the University Football league match played at River side playground, Mbarara . Mwesigwa Rodgers scored a consolation in first half through a penalty.

The visitors pilled pressure to Bishop Stuart from the start of the game which saw Munir receive the first scoring opportunity in the 5th minute but his effort went over the cross bar.

In the 20th minute of the game, Isingoma Solomon failed to deal with a loose ball in the Bishop Stuart backline and consequently  handled the ball in the box. The referee did no mistake as he awarded MUBS a penalty, only for Munir to put the visitors ahead from the spot.

MUBS kept the pressure mounting in the Bishop Stuart’s defense which forced them to commit another error, this time Kizza Ezra fouling Ssengendo in the box. Munir stepped up and  bagged his second  rom the spot in the 38th minute of the game.

Indeed it was a penalties affair as in the 42nd minute, MUBS defender  Arinda Davis handled the ball in the forbidden area. Mwesigwa Rodgers slotted home a consolation for the hosts to send the game into half time with a 2-1 MUBS lead.

The second stanza of the game saw both teams play consciously  as they waited to capitalize on a counter attack inorder to get a goal.

In the 60th minute, MUBS goalie Ibrahim made a crucial save as he blocked Eric Mwandara’s effort after a successful counter attack by Bishop Stuart.

Owomugisha Rodgers, the Bishop Stuart goalkeeper also made a couple of saves as he denied Rodgers Mandela and Munir Saidi in a one on one situations.

Bishop Stuart failed to break through the MUBS defense as they succumbed to a 2-1 loss at their home ground in Mbarara
