Uganda Cubs write history reaching the FIFA U17 World Cup knockout stages for the first time in their debut appearance, after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over France on Tuesday.
James Bogere sloted home in the 18th minute to give the cubs an early lead when skipper Hamza Ssengooba played a cut-back to find him unmarked in the 16 yards area.

For the remainder of the match, the Cubs displayed resolute defending and tactical discipline, holding off a relentless French side until the final whistle.
Their resilience and composure under pressure ensured that the 1-0 scoreline held, sealing Uganda’s passage to the knockout stage.

The win ensured that the Cubs are through to the round of 32 despite finishing third in the group with 4 points same as Chile and France in the first and second position respectively.
