Travis Mutyaba has completed a major transfer from France’s Bordeaux to Tunisian top-flight side CS Sfaxien, signing a three-year contract that keeps him at the club through 2028.

The 19-year-old midfielder has swiftly risen through the ranks from SC Villa and the Vipers Junior Team in Uganda to African heavyweight Zamalek (Egypt), where he was part of the 2023–24 CAF Confederation Cup–winning squad. Mutyaba joined Bordeaux in France’s National 2 division in October 2024 and featured in 18 senior-team matches, most recently taking part in Bordeaux’s 2024–25 campaign.

When I joined Bordeaux last season, I got good playing time, but this move to CS Sfaxien is an important step for my development. I’m eager to work hard, help bring victories, and compete for titles,” Mutyaba said on signing .

CS Sfaxien, one of Tunisia’s most decorated clubs, eight-time league champions, and three-time CAF Confederation Cup winners, finished seventh in the 2024–25 Tunisian Ligue 1 season. Mutyaba becomes the second Ugandan to join the club, following Yunus Sentamu (2014–15). His signing also adds to Uganda’s growing presence in North Africa, alongside Kenneth Ssemakula at Club Africain.

Within one year, Mutyaba has already moved between three overseas clubs, signing with Zamalek in July 2024, Bordeaux that October, and now CS Sfaxien, highlighting his rapid ascent and adaptability across diverse football cultures.

At the international level, Mutyaba is a full Uganda Cranes regular, earning 23 caps since debuting in 2021. He’s contributed three goals and three assists and recently played a key role in securing Uganda’s qualification for AFCON 2025.

Mutyaba is expected to join preseason training directly and compete for a starting role in midfield. With the club targeting a top-three finish in the Tunisian league and strong runs in African competitions, expectations are high. CS Sfaxien’s record in nurturing talent could pave the way for Mutyaba to return to Europe at a more competitive level.

Mutyaba’s contract with CS Sfaxien runs until 2028, marking his most significant move yet in professional football.
