Uganda’s Motor Vehicle and Traffic Directorate has announced a detailed traffic management plan in preparation for the arrival of guests, teams, and fans during CHAN 2024, scheduled from 2nd to 29th August 2025. The move aims to keep Kampala and Entebbe traffic moving smoothly during the continental football tournament.

The Traffic Directorate warned that traffic around major routes, especially between Entebbe International Airport, Namboole Stadium, hotels, and training grounds, will face disruptions. The plan is meant to ease congestion and ensure quick, safe transport for teams and dignitaries.

The following areas have been mapped out for official transport logistics:

  • Mestil Hotel (Nsambya): Airport → Entebbe Expressway → Northern Bypass → Bwaise → Marabu → Yusuf Lule Road → Mukwano Road

  • Serena Hotel (Kampala): Entebbe Expressway → Northern Bypass → Yusuf Lule Road → Golf Course Junction → UBC Roundabout → Serena

  • Speke Resort (Munyonyo): Entebbe Expressway → Kajjansi Interchange → Speke Resort

  • Skyz Hotel (Naguru): Entebbe Expressway → Northern Bypass → Binaisa Road → Bukoto Road → Skyz

  • FUFA Hotel (Kisaasi): Entebbe Expressway → Northern Bypass → Kisaasi Roundabout → FUFA Hotel Monitor

Official travel to training facilities will follow these designated routes:

  • Namboole Annex: Yusuf Lule → Marabu → Kubiri → Northern Bypass → Namboole Roundabout → Stadium Gate

  • Wankulukuku Stadium: Northern Bypass → Busega Roundabout → Natete → Kabusu → Wankulukuku

  • KISU Grounds (Bukoto): Mulago Traffic Lights → Kubiri → Kalerwe → Bukoto Roundabout → KISU

  • FUFA Stadium (Kadiba Mengo): Mulago → Wandegeya → Makerere Road → Balintuma → Kadiba Stadium

  • Kyambogo University Playground: Jinja Road via Punjan → Kyambogo junction → University grounds

Many industrial areas will face truck restrictions and rerouting:

  • Trucks diverted via Naalya–Kyaliwajjala–Ssonde Road

  • Seeta trucks to use Namugongo Road.

  • Kinawataka and Kireka areas will ban through trucks.

  • Bweyogerere traffic rerouted via Kinawataka Road near Jokas Hotel

  • The Kireka–Jokas stretch will be restricted to pedestrians only.

Parking at Namboole Stadium will be as follows:

  • VIP parking is designated in the Southern Wing, accessible only to accredited vehicles.

  • General parking will be managed by police, with clear routing.

  • All vehicles entering restricted zones must carry valid accreditation.

Traffic Director’s spokesperson Michael Kananura emphasised that these changes are temporary and will be enacted only during matches and major arrivals, ensuring smooth travel for the majority of commuters.

As the CHAN tournament begins, fans can expect delays around key routes, but authorities believe the plan will help Kampala remain operational and welcoming throughout the tournament.
