Vipers SC vs Bright Stars – St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende
The 2024/2025 Uganda Premier League season will wrap up in celebratory fashion at St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende as newly crowned champions Vipers SC host relegated Soltilo Bright Stars in their final game of the campaign.
This fixture will not only mark the closure of the league season but also serve as a crowning moment for the Venoms, who are set to lift the newly revamped league trophy named Margherita for the first time. It will be a historic moment for the Kitende-based side as they celebrate their seventh league title, adding yet another feather to their growing legacy.
Vipers clinched the title after a crucial 1-0 victory away at Kitara FC, a result that placed them four points ahead of their closest challengers NEC FC. With 68 points from the season and one game remaining, the Venoms cannot be caught, rendering the final game a celebration for the champions.
On the other end of the spectrum, Bright Stars head into this match on a somber note. After 12 consecutive seasons in Uganda’s top tier since their promotion in 2013, the Kavumba-based side has been relegated. A dismal campaign saw them collect just 19 points from 29 games, registering 4 wins, 7 draws, and 18 losses. They sit 15th on the table and will shift focus to regrouping in the FUFA Big League next season.
The reverse fixture between these two sides earlier in the season ended in a narrow 2-1 win for Vipers at the Kavumba Recreation Center. Goals from Gusto Mulongo and Allan Okello secured the victory, while Warren Buule scored the lone goal for Bright Stars.
While the outcome of this match holds little significance in terms of standings, all eyes will be on Kitende as fans, players, and officials alike gather to witness Vipers SC lift the Margherita trophy.
The day promises to be a fitting end to a dominant campaign for the champions and a farewell for Bright Stars from the Uganda Premier League stage. As the final whistle blows, the party in Kitende will only be getting started.
