Gold medal has opened way for more – Erina Namutebi after 2nd Africa Military Games Boxing Tournament

Uganda Bomber Erina Namutebi stood tall at the second Africa Military Games Boxing Tournament in Abuja, Nigeria.

Namutebi managed to win her first gold medal at prestigious tournament that boxed off on November 18th and set to climax on 30th.

Having twice missed the coveted medal, the 32-year-old Uganda Peoples Defence Forces soldier has finally clinched the medal;

“It’s such a good feeling” she said in a phone chat

“This one has opened the way for more gold medals,” Namutebi added

The big-hitting Ugandan boxer adds to a tally of medals held in her cabinet, the latest being  Silver collected in the Africa Boxing Championship in Yaoundé, Cameroon and at the inaugural Mandela African Boxing Cup in Durban.

However Uganda also won four more gold and two silvers medals in Abuja.

In addition to Namutebi, other gold medallists are light-flyweight Ochan Geoffrey, featherweight Joyce Kugonza and light-welterweight Innocent Amoko.

Bantamweight Japyem James and cruiserweight Jamidali Adam won the two silver medals.

In the same games on the Athletics side, with Four days to end all action, Ruth Cheptoyek & Emily Chebet secured Silver and bronze for Uganda with Tanzania’s Magdalena Shauri holding onto the gold medal in the African military Games marathon.

From top order Tanzania’s  Magdalena Shauri made a time of 2:36:29, Ruth Cheptoyek 2:41:07 and Emily Chebet 2:44:10.
