On Thursday 31st October 2024, KCCA FC managed to thrash Maroons Football Club 5-0 at the Philip Omondi stadium in Lugogo.

When the starting line was put out, a familiar face of Sadat Anaku brought a smile to many after was sighted on the bench before seeing him warm up out on the turf.

Anaku ready to make his second debut.

Anaku scored a goal late-on in the game to round off the scoring spree that was opened by Ashraf Mugume just three minutes into the match followed by Abubaker and Saidi Mayanja to end the opening half 3-0 before Kwikiriza netting the fourth past the hour mark.

Away from Anaku, another face that was not known by many came into the starting 11 to make a memorable debut in absenture of Joel Sserunjogi on the pitch and the name was Brian Ijara with shirt number 56.

Ijara, a KCCA soccer academy graduate who idolizes Paul Pogba saw some of his dreams coming true in just a snap but his progressive passing and love to make interceptions is what excited many.

In an interview with the excited teenage lad after the game, he was hugely thankful to the coach something he re-echoed multiple times;

“As a player am very happy for the opportunity offered to me by the coach to play 90 minutes” a thankful Ijara said

“I thank the fans and coaches for trusting in me. When he (Coach Abdullah Mubiru) informed me that I was going to start, I felt so good” he added

Continuing that; “I have been training hard every day and giving my all to put the coach’s instructions into action”

When asked about his idol, Ijara concluded “My idol growing up is Paul Pogba, so I try to play like him”

Ijara is one of those players that have taken that pathway from the Academy to make debuts in the senior team like Allan Jolly Okello, Mustapha Kizza, Steven Sserwadda, Anthony Emojong among others.

With many leaving Lugogo with atmost satisfaction of his debut, they await to see his progress and if the head coach will bring back into the starting 11 against Vipers on Saturday 9th November in Kitende.
