• Cape Verde 60-63 Uganda
Uganda have started the this year’s Afrobasket final qualification window on a high with a 63:60 win over group B leaders Cape Verde at the grand Hall in Libya today.
The Silverbacks immediately sparked their desire for a win, taking the first quarter on 22:12.
At the start of the second quarter, Cape Verde returned stronger on defense and held Uganda to almost five minutes without a point.
with 6 points scored, Uganda still went into halftime with a 28:24 lead. The third quarter was a scoring spree and Cape Verde only managed to reduce the deficit by one point leaving it at 50:47 heading into the final quarter.
As expected, Robinson Opongo and Ishmail Wainright led the scores for Uganda with a contribution of 22 and 16 points respectively.
Uganda faces Nigeria in the second last game tomorrow, the reverse fixture was the silverbacks’ only win from the February qualification window.
