SC Villa’s acquisition of seasoned winger Sula Matovu promises to inject both skill and leadership into the club as they seek to turn around their current season.

The attacking midfielder, known for his dynamism on the left wing, has joined the Jogoos after months of negotiations, with his debut speculated to take place in the Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 64 clash against Seeta United this Saturday in Mukono.

Matovu, 34, has an illustrious career spanning multiple countries and clubs, making him one of the most experienced players in Ugandan football.

Having played for prominent teams across Africa and beyond such as Proline (Uganda), Saint George (Ethiopia), Erbil (Iraq), Hacken (Sweden), and Kaizer Chiefs (South Africa), among others Matovu brings a wealth of international experience to Villa.

This vast background is expected to benefit SC Villa both on and off the pitch.

The Jogoos have had a challenging season so far, sitting in eighth place with 20 points, 14 points adrift of leaders Vipers.

In search of a solution to boost the squad, SC Villa has wisely turned to Matovu, a player who understands what it takes to succeed at the highest level.

His leadership experience, particularly as a member of the Uganda Cranes squad that won the 2011 CECAFA Cup, will be invaluable in mentoring younger players and providing a steady presence in the dressing room.

His ability to command the pitch and dictate play from the left and right wing could help Villa improve their attacking options, adding an extra layer of creativity and flair to their offensive game after the departure of Hakim Kiwanuka to APR FC and deep in Reagan Mpande’s form.

Matovu’s skills and experience are exactly what SC Villa needs to move up the league table. His vision, precise crossing, and flair for making key passes can provide the attacking thrust that Villa has lacked this season.

Furthermore, his time playing in top leagues, including South Africa’s Premier Soccer League and Sweden’s Allsvenskan, will ensure that he brings a professional attitude and top-level football IQ to the team.

Morley Byekwaso, SC Villa’s head coach, will be hoping that Matovu’s leadership can help guide the team through a difficult second half of the season, as they aim to close the gap with the league leaders.

His addition to the squad is not just about skill but also about setting an example for the younger players to follow.

As Matovu prepares to make his debut against Seeta United, SC Villa fans can look forward to seeing a player with a track record of success, poised to make an immediate impact on the field and provide the leadership necessary to push the club back into contention for the top spots in the league.
