Steven Wabwose was named Player of the Match after scoring a well composed half-century and taking three catches behind the stumps, leading Rounders to their maiden victory of the season in the UCA Men’s Division One league.

Wabwose, who joined Rounders from Tornado this season, proved his worth with a match-winning performance in their 92-run win over Avengers Cricket Club.

After suffering back-to-back defeats in their opening games, Rounders finally got off the mark with a commanding all-round display.

Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Rounders made a solid start, navigating the opening 10 overs without loss while scoring 30 runs.

Wabwose top-scored with 68 runs, anchoring the innings alongside Siraje Nsubuga (43) and Ronald Puwata (30).

Despite a valiant four-wicket haul from Avengers’ Yashashvi Joshi, sloppy fielding from the Avengers allowed Rounders to bat out their 50 overs, posting a competitive total of 213 all out.

In response, Avengers struggled to build momentum, losing wickets at regular intervals.

Only Abraiz Ali Mir (30 off 58) and Aneef Sha (26 off 67) offered any resistance as they were eventually dismissed for 121 in 38 overs.

Brian Mark Masaba, playing his first game of the season, impressed with the ball, taking four wickets.

Nsubuga and Tembo Zubair chipped in with three wickets each to complete a dominant bowling performance for Rounders.

Elsewhere in Division One, Ceylon Lions climbed to the top of the table with a comprehensive 106-run victory over Aboojo.

Robinson Obuya was the standout performer, scoring the first century of the division with a brilliant 111, as the Lions posted 296 in 42.1 overs.

Pascal Murungi responded with a fighting 62 for Aboojo, but their chase faltered, ending at 190 in just 30.1 overs.

Ceylon skipper Ruwan Jayaratne led from the front with four wickets, supported by Frank Nsubuga and Cosmas Kyewuta.

The result marked Aboojo’s first defeat of the season, dropping them to third place.

At Jinja SS Oval, JACC defeated Wanderers by 69 runs in a low-scoring contest.

Mulongo Paul’s 44 guided JACC to 143, which proved more than enough thanks to a lethal spell from Richard Sohera, who took 4 for 5.

Eddie Agaba added three wickets as Wanderers collapsed, remaining at the bottom of the table with just one point.

In Division Two, Mukono Warriors delivered a dominant performance, thrashing Mukono Development by 229 runs after racking up 335 — the highest team total this season.

Harsh Panchal led the charge with a blazing 111, while Kalpesh Jeshani added a brisk 66. Ismaili Community also registered their first win of the season with an 87-run triumph over Premier CC.

Ghulam Hunzai and Nazim Punjwani set a strong foundation with the bat, and despite a spirited 62 from Yug Haria, Premier CC’s batting faltered under pressure.
