It will be more than just three points to fight for in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League on Wednesday, 20th April as Vipers SC welcomes Gaddafi Football Club at the St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.

It is set to be a thrilling encounter that will bring out the best of both teams, however much it will not have so much impact on this season’s title chase.

The Venoms are top of the 16-team table with 58 points, thirty ahead of eleventh placed Gaddafi FC who have been dragged into the relegation conversation after SC Villa won their last game against Mbarara City on Tuesday.

With six and five games left to play for Vipers and Gaddafi FC respectively, not so much can change before the end of the season for the Venoms but it can for the Soilder boys. This fixture, therefore means a lot to the Jinja based side who will have to win this game inorder to confirm their top flight status next season.

Gaddafi has managed 6 wins, ten draws and 9 losses. Meanwhile, Vipers have had a good season so far, losing just twice, winning 18 out of 24, and having drawn the other four to sit top of the table with 58 points.

However, it seems as though Gaddafi have failed to get a way to consistently collect points in the League. The Soldiers Boys have not won a game in their last seven games in the League, drawing four and losing the rest.

This is going to be the second time these two teams are meeting in the League Vipers having won the reverse fixture 3-1 away in Jinja through two Milton Kariisa goals and other coming in from Bright Anukani.

Last result.

Vipers won their last game away at the Philip Omondi Stadium against rivals KCCA FC courtesy of goals from Cesar Manzoki and Milton Karissa.

For Gaddafi FC they lost their last game at home to fellow Jinja side Bul FC 2-0 in what was dubbed the Rolex derby.

What a win would mean.

A win for Vipers would stretch their lead at the summit of the Log to 15 points while a win for Gaddafi would take them 8th in place of Onduparaka on 31 points.

Team news

Vipers will be without Najib Yiga who is away in Arua with St. Mary’s School Kitende for the USSSA Schools National Championship.

Fabien Mutombora, Paul Willa and Ibrahim Orit will also not feature having been ruled out and are unlikely to return until next season.

For Gaddafi they will be without Richard Basangwa is not allowed to play against his parent club.
