Defender and Skipper Enock Walusimbi was on target in either half to help Express FC defeat Wakiso Giants 2-1 at the Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium on Wednesday.
Walusimbi broke the deadlock for Express early on in the opening half before he won it for the Red Eagles early on in the second half after Moses Aliro had levelled matters for the Purple Sharks before the break.
Following an interesting opening half, the game went into the break tied at 1-1, Enock Walusimbi put Express FC ahead in the 12th minute before Moses Aliro levelled matters for Wakiso Giants after half-hour mark.
Walusimbi pounced onto a loose ball following a John Byamukama cornerkick while Aliro received a ball from Frank Ssebuufu to dummy Isa Lumu and calmly find the back of net .
Express had the best goalscoring chances of the opening half but failed to convert them into goals.
Eric Kambale missed a one on one opportunity against Derrick Emukule while Enock Ssebalagala had his effort saved by Emukule early on.
Apart from Aliro’s goal, Wakiso Giants other chance in the first half fell to Lawrence Bukenya who shot hard and low, but his effort was brilliantly saved by Denis Otim.
Following another brilliant driven corner from Byamukama after restart, Walusimbi restored Express’ lead with a wonderful header past Emukule after a Joseph Akandwanaho back header flick to set the skipper up.
Wakiso had a chance to level matters just after the hour mark when Aliro tied up Rahmat Senfuuka, but the midfielder shot to goalkeeper Otim.
Walusimbi was stretched off in the 70th minute after suffering a nasty injury.
In the later exchanges of the game, Express held on to secure a victory.
With the victory, Express now move fourth on the table with 42 points garnered in 25 games. They leapfrog both BUL and Arua Hill in the process.
For Wakiso Giants, they remain seventh with 36 points.
