Wakiso Giants will travel to the Kakyeka Stadium, Mbarara to face Mbarara City Football Club on Friday evening seeking for their first win in the 2020/21 StarTimes Uganda Premier League season.
Despite not winning any game in their last five games, the Purple Sharks are one of the five teams that haven’t tasted defeat this season having drawn all their games this season (The others are; Vipers, URA FC, Express FC and Livingstone Mbabazi’s Kyetume FC).
The search for a first win takes them to Mbarara City who sit just above the relegation zone in 13th position on the log with only three points.
Mbarara City is still unbeaten at home, having drawn all the two games played so far at the Kakyeka Stadium in Mbarara (both 1-all with Express FC and URA FC). In their last game before the CHAN break, they needed a last gasp goal from Bashir Mutanda to secure a 3-3 draw with MYDA FC in Tororo.
Their meet with Wakiso Giants sees them under another coach in less than six games after the re-hiring of Sadiq Sempigi who had quit the club to be in charge taking over from Muhammad Kisekka who was forced to step aside. Sempigi is expected to fill the void left by the team head coach Brian Ssenyondo who is away on national team duty.
Sempigi says he is ready to lead Mbarara City to their first win of the season.
“We shall certainly miss coach Ssenyondo but I will do all it takes to win Mbarara City their first win of the season,” he said.
But, although the Ankole Lions are still unbeaten at home this season, Wakiso head coach, Giants Douglas Bamweyana believes they travel to Mbarara looking for nothing less than a win.
“We are certainly looking for nothing other than a win,” he said before adding; “We know it’s going to be a tough game but we feel we have prepared very well as we have a much better balance in our squad especially up-top and now we probably hope for a lot more returns in that position.”
“We are confident of picking three points going into tomorrow’s game but we shall need to work hard to get that result.”
