Halid Lwaliwa, Ceasar Manzoki and Yunus Sentamu were on target for Vipers SC as they wonderfully exacted revenge on URA FC to extend their lead atop of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League log to nine points.
The venoms defeated the Tax Collectors 3-0 at the Arena of Vision in Ndejje University on Tuesday.
The venoms. who had lost the first round game 2-0 started off this encounter the brightest and had several chances to break the deadlock early on in the game through Yunus Sentamu, but his effort was parried away for a corner by Nafian Alionzi in the third minute.
Disan Galiwango was also denied by Alionzi, who easily collected the left-back’s shot with ease in the 11th minute.
But the URA custodian could not save Halid Lwaliwa’s effort in the 27th minute who pounced in from close range following Manzoki’s header from a Bobosi Byaruhanga corner.
Few moments later, Vipers made it two from the spot after Sentamu was fouled in the area by Hudu Mulikyi for Manzoki to step up and put his kick just past Alionzi to double the Venom’s lead.
The Tax Collectors best attempts in the opening half fell to right back Ashraf Mandela, who sent in several shots from outside the box.
At the restart, URA head coach Sam Timbe withdrew Shafik Kagimu and Viane Ssekajungo for Jackson Nunda and Joachim Ojera respectively while Siraje Sentamu went off for Musa Ssali for Vipers.
With the introduction of Nunda and Ojera, the Tax Collectors started to dominate some of the proceedings – imposing some attacks on the Vipers back line but their attacks yielded no fruits.
It was Vipers who instead got the third of the game after their talisman Sentamu ran onto Milton Karisa’s back-flick header to guide the ball into the back of the net just after the hour mark.
The Venoms were forced into other changes in the 70th minute as Sentamu and Fabien Mutombora were stretched off injured for Paul Mucureezi and Denis Kiggundu respectively.
URA tried to pull a goal back in the latter exchanges of the game, but that wasn’t possible as the Vipers’ back line remained rock-tight to the end.
With the victory, the Venoms get to 55 points, nine points ahead of second-placed KCCA FC with the two sides have played the same number of games (23).
For URA, they stay third on the log with 43 points in 25 games.
Vipers play KCCA next in what is dubbed the title decider at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Saturday evening.
