Startimes UPL: URA, Villa open their campaigns with home victories

Both URA FC and SC Villa started off their 2021/22 StarTimes Uganda Premier League campaigns with home victories over UPDF FC and Police FC respectively on Friday afternoon.

The two missed the first three fixtures of the season as the Jogoos were intially omitted from the 2021/22 fixtures due to failure to meet the minimum licensing requirements while URA FC had CAF Confederations Cup engagements to deal with first.

Starting off in Ndejje, URA FC had to rally from a goal down to defeat UPDF FC 3-1 at the Arena  of Visions in Ndejje University,

Cromwell Rwothomio netted a second half brace while Vianne Ssekajungo netted the other as the Tax Collectors garnered a vital victory.

Samuel Mbazira had put the Army side ahead before the halftime break.

The loss was UPDF’s first loss this season, having drawn with Onduparaka FC and beaten Express FC in their first two games.

In Kavumba, The record Uganda Premier League champions SC Villa needed a late goal from substitute Saddam Masereka to defeat Police FC at the Kavumba Recreation Center, Wakiso.

Masereka’s strike came with only seven minutes left on the clock to gift coach Petros Koukouras his first win in the Uganda Premier League on his first attempt.

For Police FC, they have now lost all the four games they have played this season and sit bottom of the 16-team log.

Elsewhere, Mbarara City held on to defeat Arua Hill SC 2-0 at the Kakyeka Stadium, Mbarara.

Henry Kitegenyi and Jude  Ssemugabi netted for the Ankole Lions while Alfred Leku got the Leopard’s consolation.
