Brian Ssenyondo was back on the touchline as Mbarara City garnered their first win of the season after they edged past Kitara FC 1-0 at the Kavumba Recreation Center, Wakiso on Tuesday evening.

The youthful tactician had missed his side’s opening six StarTimes Uganda Premier league matches due to engagements with the Uganda Cubs.

Solomon Okwalinga scored the lone goal early in the first half on Ssenyondo’s return to the touchline.

With arguably Mbarara City first attempt on goal, midfielder Solomon Okwaliga broke the deadlock in the 5th minute after he was set up by Jude Semugabi to slot home from close range.

Semugabi had a chance to double the Ankole lions lead but he saw his effort bounced off the far post with Kitara goalie Opoi Emmanuel well beaten.

Having gotten injured while finding the opener, Okwalinga was subbed off for debutant Chato Bamba in the 14th minutes and twenty minutes afterwards Chato put the ball into the back of the net but his effort was ruled out for any offside in the build-up.

Semugabi once again couldn’t capitalize on Kitara awful defending after he bulleted his effort into the skys just before halftime to ensure the game went into the break with scores at 1-0 for the Ankole lions.

Have endured a horrible first half of the game, Kitara came back after the break the better side, imposing relentless pressure on Mbarara City backline and with 73 minutes on the clock, they were unlucky not to level matters after Daniel Ekoyu’s effort from almost 40 yards hit the crossbar.

Two minutes afterwards from a freekick, Ssekeba fantastically parried away Kasonki Vincent’s freekick for a cornerkick to deny the hosts from levelling matters.

With their first win, Mbarara City stay in 13th position with six points garnered in their opening seven games while Kitara remain rock bottom with just a single point.
