Defender Livingstone Mulondo rescued a point for Vipers SC after Robert Oliviera’s side came from behind to draw 2-all with Express FC at Wakulukuku.
Cesar Manzoki fired Vipers ahead, but Murushid Juuko and Eric Kambale put Express ahead before the break. Mulondo saved Oliviera’s skin late on in the game.
The game started at a slow pace with both sides resulting to a cautious approach to the game
But the visitors, Vipers took the lead with their first shot on target, Cesar Manzoki Lobi rebounding on a Yunus Sentamu’s shot that was parried to the crossbar by Express custodian Joel Mutakubwa in the 9th minute.
Aprt from that strike, the opening 30 minutes were far from interesting as both sides struggled to create enough chances upfront.
Express did level matters just before the half-hour mark through Juuko who are headed in after a long throw by Deus Bukenya which was flicked by Kambale and Mahad Yaya Kakooza on it’s way to Juuko.
With nine minutes to the break, Vipers were denied a clear penalty after Arthur Kiggundu handed a Sentamu’s header that was heading to the back of the net but referee Rajab Bakasambe waved it away for a cornerkick.
With arguably the last kick of the break, Express took the lead with Kambale making a wonderful touch to put the ball rolling into the back of net after a wonderful cross by Kakooza.
With his side having thrown away the lead, Vipers head coach Robert Oliviera made two changes at the start of the closing half, bringing on Karim Watambala and Ibrahim Orit for Milton Karisa and Bright Anukani respectively.
And Watambala almost made an instant impact three minutes afterwards as his cornerkick was agnozingly headed onto the bottom upright by Orit.
For much of the second half, the visitors patiently probbed with Express happy to sit back and resolting to counter-attacks.
After a few relentless attacks on the Express backline, Vipers eventually got the goal they needed with nine minutes to go to level matters with defender Livingstone Mulondo putting the ball into the back of the net after a Manzoki heading a Bobosi Byaruhanga’s cross into his path.
Vipers had a couple chances to win the game late on but Mutakubwa was brilliant for Express, wonderfully saving Sentamu and Muccurezi’s efforts.
He parried away both effort to the cornerkick.
With the draw, Vipers SC move to seven points garnered in three games while Express move to four points in four games.
